MENSTON COUPLE REAP THE BENEFITS OF 'ALL YEAR ROUND' CONSERVATORY

When Mr and Mrs Jenkins from Menston, West Yorkshire moved into their new home last year they turned to Windows to help them upgrade their existing conservatory to create an energy efficient, all-year-round Garden Room.

“Our original plan when we moved here was to use the conservatory area as a dining room, however this wasn’t possible with the existing PVC-u roof as we found it difficult to control the temperature and it was extremely noisy when it rained,” said Mr Jenkins.

“We decided we needed to make it more energy efficient so we could get better use out of our conservatory so we contacted Windows, who had installed one for us before at our old home. We have also bought windows and doors from the company in the past, and have always been impressed with the quality of their products, and their after sales service.”

Mr and Mrs Jenkins chose grey tiles to complement the existing roof, the conservatory’s white PVC windows, and the style of the house. They also chose to have a Velux window fitted, as it adds a bit of character to the room, and is a great way of bringing in natural light. Windows also added a feature beam made from Mahogany to add another element to the room.

Mr Jenkins continues: “The fitting of the roof was excellent – we couldn’t fault the workmanship, it was of extremely high quality and the outcome looks great. We have already noticed a difference in the room’s energy efficiency – before the heat used to go straight out of the roof and now the room is always a pleasant temperature. We are now able to take advantage of the room all year round.”

Janine Roberts, Showroom Manager at Windows, said: “Mr and Mrs Jenkins have made a very worthwhile investment in transforming a conservatory which was largely unusable for most of the year into a pleasant, comfortable space that is ideal for use all the year round.  More and more people are choosing to upgrade to our tiled roof conservatories, or ‘Garden Rooms’, as they are a great feature to a home.”

RESIDENCE 9 CHOSEN FOR YORKSHIRE DALES

The latest Windows’ customer to recognise the benefits of Residence 9 windows is Mr Walton who lives in Nidderdale. Mr Walton wanted to upgrade the single glazed timber window in the kitchen of his self-designed traditional English property to a more energy efficient style, which complemented the aesthetics of his home and the surrounding area.

Residence 9 was the obvious choice as the window has an authentic timber appearance and is in keeping with the rest of the stone-built property. These windows also offer low maintenance properties and are designed to offer strong weather performance, making them ideal to withstand the harsh weather conditions of the Yorkshire Dales.

Alongside the white Residence 9 window, Mr Walton also chose French doors from Windows which were fitted to the rear of the property.

Mr Walton decided to buy from Windows as we have over 40 years’ experience in manufacturing and installing windows and doors, and he was impressed with what we had to offer, after a visit to the showroom.

Mr Walton said: “I’m so pleased with my products from Windows. The Residence 9 window has really impressed me – I am planning to have all the windows in the house replaced with them!”

He added: “The staff at Windows were great, especially the fitters. My wife was originally concerned about the mess of having new windows fitted, but the fitters were really considerate. We are more than happy.”

Janine Roberts, Showroom Manager at Windows, said: “We’re very pleased to hear that Mr Walton is delighted with his new window and French Doors. Residence 9 was a great choice for this property - the window retains the home’s aesthetics, whilst offering all the benefits of a double-glazed system, such as energy efficiency and low maintenance.”

OTLEY COUPLE CREATE DREAM HOME WITH NEW CONSERVATORY

Keen gardeners Karen and Jonathan Lester from Otley have added value to their home with a new Windows conservatory, which will enable them to enjoy their garden even more in their retirement.

The Lesters, who live in a semi-detached property, asked a number of local window companies to prepare quotes, but the choice and value offered by Windows meant they were able to upgrade the windows and add bi-folding doors to their home too!

Karen Lester said: “We are just about to retire so we recently received a small lump sum through our pensions – it made sense to use the money to invest in upgrading our home.

I’ve always wanted a conservatory and that was the number one priority for me, but what was an added bonus was that we could also afford to upgrade some of our windows too – and add a bi-folding door!”

She continued: “We didn’t really know what styles or designs we wanted so it was great that Windows’ staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. They went through a number of options with us and we soon decided that we wanted something that was low maintenance and energy efficient. We decided on a white PVCu Kommerling conservatory with an Ultraframe roof and matching white PVCu Kommerling windows.”

As Windows is also part of a window manufacturer group, this meant that Mr and Mrs Lester were able to benefit from the cost savings of buying direct from the manufacturer.

“It’s amazing how much of a difference the new windows have made to our home – we’ve certainly noticed our heating bills reduce! They look great too – we live in quite a modern semi-detached, so the fresh white frames look quite striking against the red-brick. And, as they’re PVCu there’s no maintenance involved which means that we can spend more time in the garden,” continued Mrs Lester.

“But it’s the conservatory that has made the biggest impact. We had easy-clean Conservaglass installed in the roof as it keeps the intense heat of the sun out in summer, but the warmth in over winter. This means that we can enjoy the garden no matter what the season and although winter is fast approaching, we often spend the afternoon in there, just watching the birds feed in the garden,” said Mrs Lester.

She continued: “The real bonus, however, is the added space. We took the opportunity to really maximise the space in our home by having three white aluminium bi-folding doors installed. They lead from the lounge to the conservatory, creating a space that is 25 feet long when they’re open! They’re absolutely stunning – they really do bring the outside in and they also complement our new conservatory and windows perfectly.”

Mrs Lester added: “I’m absolutely over the moon with the finished result! It’s like living in a new house and I can’t wait to show it off at Christmas. We have all the family over for Boxing Day and to push back the bi-folds so we are all in the same large space will be an added bonus.”

Mrs Lester concluded: “I’m completely satisfied with the service at Windows. From start to finish everyone has been so caring and understanding. Even when we were initially enquiring about a quote, the staff took the time to advise us on what would work for us and our property. The fitters were fabulous – really friendly, leaving it clean and tidy too, which is exactly what you need when you’re having a lot of work done!”

Janine Roberts, Showroom Manager at Windows, said: “At Windows we really do put the customer first and we will do everything we can to make sure we meet their exact requirements. We knew how important a new conservatory was to Mr and Mrs Lester and we’re pleased to have been able to play a part in upgrading their property into their dream home!”

STAR PERFORMANCE FROM  WINDOWS

After years of searching for the perfect style of window for their home in the village of Starbotton in Upper Wharfedale, Dr and Mrs Walker found that the service provided by Windows was deserving of a gold star.

The Walkers had moved into their converted lead miners’ cottages just over six years ago and, although they loved their new Yorkshire Dales home, they were less than impressed with the windows.

“We live in a row of traditional cottages,” explained Mrs Walker. “There were five of them when they were originally built in 1765, but over time they’ve been split into two separate houses. Our neighbours have timber sliding sashes but, regrettably, we had white UPVC windows of many different styles,” continued Mrs Walker.

“I desperately wanted to upgrade the windows and I initially wanted timber sashes, similar to the ones next door. However, after a couple of years living here, I realised that, with an exposed South West facing property and the very harsh winters we experience in the Dales, timber was going to require too much maintenance. I therefore decided on UPVC and started on my search,” said Mrs Walker.

“I could not find UPVC sash windows that looked like timber anywhere. The mitred joints on the windows are an immediate giveaway and I could not find anyone who could offer the mechanical joints in UPVC. I was about to give up when a builder recommended Windows,” continued Mrs Walker. “I was very specific in my requirements and, at first, the combination of mechanical joints and a sliding sash was not available. However Windows persevered and eventually they found exactly what I was looking for.”

“It was really important for me to have UPVC frames as I’m not sure my husband and I could keep up with the maintenance of timber windows. But, given our village location, I was eager for them to look as close to wood as possible,” said Mrs Walker. “This meant that everything from the horn to the mechanical joint had to be just right.”

Mrs Walker said: “ Windows have done a beautiful job. It’s great that my windows now complement the neighbours’ and are totally in keeping with their surroundings. They’re stunning from the inside too as I chose gold furniture which looks great against the freshness of the frames.  It’s also a great benefit that they are incredibly low maintenance.”

“I can’t fault the service either. Janine, the Showroom Manager, did a great job of finding exactly what I wanted, but the fitters were fantastic too. They arrived promptly every day and they were really friendly. They even cleaned up, leaving it spotless,” Mrs Walker concluded.

Janine Roberts, Showroom Manager at Windows, said: “As this is a very traditional property in a stunning rural location, we understood why Mrs Walker wanted her new windows to look as close to the original as possible. The team worked really hard to ensure we could meet the Walkers’ requirements and I think the end result is something we can all be proud of!”

CONSERVATORY IS GIVEN NEW LEASE OF LIFE THANKS TO WINDOWS

Mr and Mrs Hall from Baildon were looking to replace their timber frame conservatory, with a modern, low maintenance alternative – so their first port of call was Windows, based on Leeds Road.

“We knew we would have to replace the window frames at some point. Although I took good care of the wood, I knew it was bound to start rotting eventually. Thankfully the conservatory’s stone wall and tiled roof looked like they were still in good working order, so we just needed to replace the frame and the glass,” said Mr Hall.

“Once we’d decided to go ahead with the work, we visited Windows to see if they could fit us in. We had bought from Windows before - when we had our greenhouse replaced around five years ago,” said Mr Hall. “I remember spotting their showroom on one of our weekly shopping trips. We both liked the look and feel of the place so that’s why we decided to use them the first time. And they did such a wonderful job of the greenhouse that they were the first company we turned to when we decided to replace the conservatory frame.”

“We’d had to have the greenhouse replaced because of the same problem – rotten timber frames. We’d chosen to replace the frames with UPVC and that’s what we wanted again this time because it’s low maintenance and durable. Janine, the Sales Advisor, went through all the options available, just to make sure we were making the right decision. Windows are very thorough like that,” continued Mr Hall.

“On Janine’s advice we chose a light wood grain effect because it complemented our window frames and it didn’t look too dissimilar to the wood it was replacing. The difference is, of course, that UPVC is so much easier to maintain than wood – we just need to give it a quick wipe down. There’s no more painting... and it won’t rot!,” said Mr Hall. “We also went for a sliding patio door as this would maximise the space for us.”

Mr Hall said: “The end result is fabulous and we love sitting out in our conservatory again, but it’s the service that would make us use Windows again in the future. All the staff are excellent - not just the people in the showroom, but the fitters too. They’re friendly and considerate and it didn’t feel awkward having them here - when you’ve got strangers working in your house, this is really important.”

Mr Hall continued: “I’d recommend Windows to anyone in the area. It’s a good local company that has been going for over 40 years, so I know I can rely on it if I need to in the future.”

Janine, Sales Advisor for Windows, added “The new UPVC frame has given the Halls’s conservatory a new lease of life. Now the rotten wood has been replaced it’s been transformed into a light and useable living space – a perfect spot for admiring the garden, whatever the weather!”

STUNNING SLIDING SASH UPGRADE TO  HOME

When Liz Foster moved into her two bedroom terraced home in , the first thing she did was look into having the windows replaced.

“I loved the house but hated the windows” said Liz.  “They were not at all in keeping with the property or the area.  They were very heavy PVC-u and in completely the wrong style.   Some other properties in the area still have their original sliding sash windows and I wanted to replace the windows to give the whole house a more authentic look and feel.”

Liz contacted Windows, as she had heard about the company’s good reputation and was impressed with the fact that the business has been around for 40 years.

Liz explains: “I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted when I visited Windows.  Their sales advisor Janine was fantastic and listened to what I was trying to achieve.  She recommended a white woodgrain effect PVC-u window in a classic sliding sash style, which would look great but also be low maintenance.  I was really impressed with their showroom and with the time and trouble they took in helping me decide what was best for my property.”

Liz, who lives with her dog Nellie, a Labrador-cross, said: “It wasn’t just the sales advisors who were great, but the fitters too.  They were really knowledgeable about what they were doing and answered any queries I had.  They made sure I was happy with everything, down to the smallest detail of using the sashes, I couldn’t have asked for better service.”

She adds: “The whole experience was unbelievably good – it’s no wonder that Windows has been around such a long time.   I felt so reassured throughout the process that my home was in good hands – and the end results speak for themselves!

Liz said: “It was very reassuring to be buying from a company with a 40 year history – so I can be confident that if I need anything in the future, they should still be around.  Friends suggested other window companies and some were cheaper, but for me, it was more important to know that I was being looked after and my property was in safe, reliable hands.”

“I wouldn’t have any hesitation in recommending Windows. In fact, I’m planning a Garden Room hopefully later this year, so am looking forward to seeing the new products installed at the Windows showroom.   I wouldn’t risk buying them from anywhere else.”

HOME GETS ATTRACTIVE UPGRADE TO DOORS AND WINDOWS

We recently replaced a complete set of windows and doors for the home of Mike & Louise Harris, from .

The couple liked the fact that the company was based locally to them and had already heard good things about Windows from one of their friends. When they visited the showroom, they were impressed with the quality of the products and the approach of Windows’ sales team.

Mr & Mrs Harris opted for a complete set of windows, a PVC-u door glazed with Minister Glass, and added a PVC-u French door to the back of the property.

Classic white PVC windows replaced the family’s old wooden single-glazed windows, in a bid to improve the home’s aesthetics and energy efficiency.

The upgrade to their home was completed in just a few days and Mike and Louise noticed immediately that the house feels quieter, more secure, and warmer, as it retains more heat. They are expecting to make significant savings on their energy bills over the year.

Mike Harris said: “The service which we received from Windows and Conservatories was fantastic, I cannot recommend them enough. In particular the team of fitters, who were very courteous and completed the job quickly, without fuss, to a very high standard. I’m really pleased with the way the house looks and the fact that we are saving money on our bills.”
